For a safe drive, the Mercedes-Benz safety concept supports you using many different measures:
The control and display system, for example, helps reduce distractions. Then there are systems which are designed to alert and assist the driver in critical situations. These include the ADAPTIVE BRAKE braking system. It has various helpful functions:
- The HOLD function: activated by the driver, this function prevents the vehicle from rolling back on a gradient.
- Hill Hold / Hill Start Assist : this auxillary function prevents the vehicle from rolling backwards when the driver switches from brake pedal to the accelarator to move off on an uphill gradient. When the sensor detects that the vehicle has come to a stop on a gradient , the hill holder function is activated automatically and maintains a constant brake pressure for a short time to make moving easier.
- Dry-braking function: in wet driving conditions, brief braking impulses skim off the layer of water formed on the brake discs so that if needed the brakes can act with full effect.
